I was going through some old posts yesterday trying to figure out if I had enough to make a book, and I found one I wrote in January right after I signed up for the Portland to Coast.
I must have been smoking crack!!!!
I made a goal of walking a 10 minute mile. Who that crap did I think I was Wonder Women?!? I couldn't walk a 10 minute mile if my life depended on it. I have been walking for months and am no where close to that. To get a 10 minute mile I would have to either run or do the mom walk. Neither of which I am willing or able to do. Although I did get passed like I was standing still by an old lady on my last leg, and I am sure she was rocking a 10 minute mile.
LAME!!!!
I thought I would have to walk 160 steps a minute to hit 10 minutes. WRONG. I am hitting that now and only making 15 minute miles. SUCK!
New Goal: 13 minute miles. Let's be realistic, I am thinner than I was in January, but not even close to where I should be. That being said, I will lose more weight and hit 13 minute miles.
Official Goal for 2011 Portland to Coast: 13 minute miles!
You may ask yourself as I did before I did this walk
"why on Earth would one put themselves through that?"
or
"was it worth it?"
Answer: Because I am crazy, and yes it was worth it. I had a great time with great friends, but more than that my kids are proud of me. Brody had to write a paper about something he was proud of on the first day of school and he wrote "that my mom walked the Portland to Coast". There you go, I wanted to be an example of good health to my kids and I am doing it. Eating cookies and other crap at home isn't super great, but baby steps I tell you. Baby steps.

That is awesome! The fact that Brody did that on his own is enough to say it was worth it! Good job Genai!!!
