Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree.... You are Finally Decorated!
The Christmas tree is lit and decorated. We had to go buy a new strand of lights which is irritating, but the tree looks nice, and the kids love it so that is all that matters.
Christmas trees are a funny thing.
Christmas trees are a funny thing.
Growing up we had all sorts of different theme decorated trees (Santa's, snowmen, bears etc.). Rex's family always has a family tree decorated with ornaments collected through out the years.
Our tree is decor
ated with random ornaments. Some represent our babies first Christmases, one is a h
eart locket that Rex and I bought on our first Christmas as a married couple.
Each year we make goals and close it into the locket along with a $2 bill we got as part of a wedding gift.
Each ornament is unique and has a story behind it. The tree is random, and frankly a little chaotic, and I think it's beautiful.
I love to admire the Christmas trees that are color coordinated and fancy

(don't get me wrong, I will have on of those to accompany the "family tree" someday),
but our mixed matched tree makes me smile.
Our trees topper is a Cabbage Patch looking angel with a candle wax stain on her arm I had on my tree when I was young. It is simple and a little homely, but it floats at the top of our tree protecting all the wonderful memories she has witnessed.
Directly below our angel is a menacing elf from Rex's family tree. Growing up Rex's parents told the kids that this elf watched over the presents under the tree; and if any of the kids were to snoop, or misbehave the troll would get down from the tree and tell Santa what the kids had done. A brilliant tale that we have passed down to our kids as well. I have been trying to think of some kind of doll I could put up in the house to make this story last all year long!

I must say that the Christmas spirit is sneeking back into the house. There is still no snow on the ground, but every so often Christmas music seems to find it's way to our stereo, and the car slows down infront particularly festive houses. We have made plans to go to Peacock Lane and the Zoo Lights next week, and hopefully if all goes well our Grandma and Grandpa Harper will be with us for Christmas!
Merry Chritmas from the Harper Family
(and we really mean it!)

I must say that I like your tree!!! And the troll idea is AWESOME!!!!
I hadn't heard of "The Elf" until this year and it seems everywhere I turned someone was talking about it. I saw the book with the Elf at the bookstore, we have now added him to our Christmas traditions! Someone I know actually moves hers somewhere different each night so when the kids wake up they see that he has been "roaming" about the house.
