Christmas Tree Drama
2007
We gave in and bought a artificial Christmas tree. I personally believe that it is a law against nature to have an artificial tree in the Northwest, but Rex works crazy hours in the winter, so we had no choice. To make up a little bit for having a fake tree, I bought the tallest, most real looking tree they had at Home Depot. It is 14 feet tall, and pre-it. If I had to do it, I was going to do it right!
I secretly love the pre-it part. I have some OCD issues, and having the tree all lit evenly and all of the wires hidden makes my little organizational heart leap with joy.
Fast forward to
2008
My mom had just passed away, and no one was really in the mood to put the tree up. Rex came to the rescue. He brought the tree down from the attic, and in what is the exact opposite of the usual Scroodgy (yes that is a word) started putting the tree up. What a difference a tree makes! We had a great Christmas, and I began to warm up to the idea of the fake tree.
2009
It is December 9th, and Rex finally has a day off. We unplugged for the evening, and decided to make the house festive once again. Down came the tree from the attic in four huge pieces. The base, and the second and third portions are up and lit. Then came the top. Rex climbed to the top of the piano, leaned way over, plugged in the top to the rest of the tree, and no lights.
NO LIGHTS!!!!!
What the crap!?!
I paid an obscene amount of money for a tree that isn't going to light up after 2 years!
So, now I have a tree in my front room with no lights and no decorations because the weather man said it was going to snow so......we haven't really seen Rex in a couple of days.
I am starting to lose my Christmas spirit and my sense of humor.
This isn't good, because I am the only parent in this house that has any Christmas spirit.
It better snow. Snow always makes me happy.
Maybe a little shopping too.
To Be Continued.......

Genai, I am thrilled that we can check up on all that is going on up there in the NW! With the tree not lighting up at the top... When you take the tree apart after Christmas, check the plug that goes from the top piece of the tree to the next section. I would guess that you have a fuze that has gone out on you. I was ready to throw away some lights we had this year because of that very thing... then I found the little "bulb-like thingies" in the bag that came with extra bulbs for the lights. I replaced them and my lights worked again. It's worth a try. Good luck!
...And thanks for the invite to your blog. :)Cindy (and Dan)
